Her smile lights up the room, so radiant and bright. Allium, a mother to a two and a half year old baby girl that she won’t be able to see grow up. A year already spent in Kerobokan with an eight year sentence ahead of her for money laundering. Originally born and brought up in Jakarta, she moved to Bali to follow her heart to reunite with her fiance at the time. Once on the Island of the Gods, she began working in a marketing role at a nightclub in Kuta. This didn’t last long as her brilliance with numbers led to a close friend asking if she wanted to join a business where she could make more money. In order to support her little girl who was only a year and a half old. She took the deal. This led to her role in this business being the accountant, asking for account numbers from customers and organising documents.
Early one morning, Allium went to open her front door as usual to let in the rays of the morning sun. However, this particular morning instead of the warm streaks of light, she was greeted by a warrant for her arrest. The face behind the warrant was a private investigator from Jakarta who demanded to know where her business partner was. After a call to her business partner who was on holiday in Uluwatu, Allium was instructed to pack up her belongings and was escorted down to Uluwatu where she would accompany the police in her business partner's arrest. Her business partner wouldn’t go down without a fight. He kicked and screamed as the policemen detained him. Patiently sitting in the back of the car, watching this happen right in front of her, it dawned on Allium that this wasn’t just a quick and simple Visa check.
Both of them were flown to Jakarta to the police headquarters as the business had turned out to be a huge scam and the owner was scamming customers out of millions of rupiah. So once the government got a whisper of what was happening, their cooperation was completely shut down, ending up with both Allium and her partner being sent to Kerobokan, Allium in the women’s prison and her business partner in the men’s prison, just next door. The story doesn’t end here though, the mastermind of the whole cooperation is still on the run from the Indonesian government, vanishing without a trace, taking with him the freedom of a poor desperate mother.
